5 Oct: Doubles A and B fought it out and some close games resulted in a 8-1 score line, with James/Peter taking a point with a score of 13-21 22-20 22-20!
10 Oct: Mixed B kicked off their campaign against Freshford. Unfortunately a key player was unavailable for the match and the shuttles in the hall were extremely slow which affected our players. More close games, with the team losing 3 in 3 ends! 8-1 loss. 12 Oct: Mixed C played their first match against Phoenix B, with three players making their Chippenham 23 debut! The 5-4 result in favour of Phoenix reflects how evenly matched these teams are! 14 Oct: Mixed B played their second match, this time away at Phoenix A. A man down once again saw the team this time limit the damage with a 6-3 loss after taking some mixed games late in the match. 21.09.22 Doubles A team kicked off the season with a great start, beating local rivals Corsham A 9-0
23.09.22 Doubles B played away against Frome A. It was always going to be a tough match, which was reflected in the 8-1 score line. Great work to pick up a point though! 28.09.22 Mixed A were home to Freshford and came out with an 8-1 win. Some very close games! Chippenham 23 has had a successful summer of badminton. We have had a club night every Wednesday (except when the hall has been closed) easily filling three courts most weeks!
Five Chippenham 23 players have taken part in a series of summer county training sessions which have started up this year. We had a great social at Bath on the Beach, and hope to have another social in the coming months! Chippenham 23 players have put in appearances at a number of tournaments on the Badminton England circuit, and the Ricky Sansom charity tournament in Somerset. We now begin to welcome back those players who have had a break over the summer, and some players who are returning from injury. We have had a few new players join the club and are always pleased to welcome new faces! We look ahead to what will hopefully be a successful season of badminton for the club. Due to increases in court hire and shuttle costs, joining fees for the season have increased slightly to £160 for seniors and £85 for juniors, which includes Badminton England and local association registration fees, and access to over 30 club nights throughout the year, which are held at an excellent venue with feather shuttles! Club nights will revert to Monday's from 5 September, however we do have some extra club nights in September. Upcoming club night dates (all at Sheldon School) are: 31 August, 7-10pm 5 September 8-10pm 7 September 8-10pm 12 September 8-10pm 14 September 8-10pm And then club nights on Monday's, 8-10pm will be ongoing until the end of April. Team selection will take place on 7 September, ready for the first matches on 21 September. We have three mixed teams and three level doubles teams entered into the mid wilts league this year, as well as our usual contingent of cup competitions! The club continues to welcome new members, and anyone wishing to join the club, please get in touch via our contact form! On 2 July 2022, two of Chippenham 23's finest were selected to play in the four nations graded tournament in Cardiff.
Rich and Bex represented E grade in mixed doubles and won their matches against all Scotland, Wales and Ireland. England were the winners for E grade and the overall competition winners. |
